Chris Barbour, O.D., PhD.
Dr. Chris Barbour has been providing quality eye care in Hood River since 1997, performing full-scope optometry including ocular disease treatment and management. He strives to consistently improve his ability to serve his patients through continued learning, using the latest technologies in our practice, and developing and maintaining working relationships with various healthcare providers to present a strong team in patient care. Dr. Barbour enjoys establishing long term relationships with his patients where he can earn and maintain their trust.
Dr. Barbour graduated from the New England College of Optometry in Boston after earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology at the University of California at Davis, CA and his Master’s Degree in Visual Cognitive Psychology and Ph. D. in Visual Neural Psychology at the University of Oregon. His dissertation research there involved studying the brain systems responsible for allowing people to discern different types of motion.
During his college term at the University of California, Davis, Dr. Barbour had the privilege of conducting various perception experiments for development as a research associate for The Human Factors Division of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, (NASA) in 1986-1987. His work there improved the habitability of the proposed International Space Station.
Dr. Barbour continues to serve his community as he enjoys the many benefits of living here in the Gorge. He has been a member of the Hood River Chamber of Commerce and of the Oregon Lions Sight and Hearing, Hood River Chapter since 1997. He loves taking his family camping and to explore around Oregon for new fishing spots, especially float tube fishing in Lost Lake!
Dr. Barbour’s strives to make sure each person walking through the doors of the Cascade Eye Center feels respected and valued and receives the best eye care possible.
